The 1996 Olympic Games were predominately based in Atlanta; however, it had various locations throughout Georgia and across the southeastern region of the United States of America.

Centennial Olympic Stadium

Alexander Memorial Coliseum – Boxing
Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium – Baseball
Centennial Olympic Stadium– Opening/Closing Ceremonies, Athletics
Cycling road course – hiking (road)
Forbes Arena (Morehouse College) – Basketball
Georgia Dome – Basketball (final), Gymnastics (artistic), Handball (men’s final)
Georgia State University Sports Arena – Badminton
Georgia Tech Aquatic Center – Diving, Modern pentathlon (swimming), Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Water Polo
Georgia World Congress Center – Fencing, Handball, Judo, Modern pentathlon (fencing, shooting), Table Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling
Herndon Stadium – Field hockey (final)
Marathon course – cycling (marathon)
Omni Coliseum – Volleyball (indoor final)
Panther Stadium – Field hockey
Walking course- Athletics (walks)

Locations were used in Metro Atlanta that already existed to help ease the cost of creating a vast Olympic infrastructure.

Atlanta Beach (Jonesboro, Georgia) – Volleyball (beach)
Georgia International Horse Park (Conyers, Georgia) – Cycling (mountain), Equestrian, Modern pentathlon (riding, running)
Lake Lanier (Near Gainesville, Georgia) – Canoeing (sprint), Rowing
Stone Mountain Park Archery Center – Archery
Stone Mountain Tennis Center (at Stone Mountain, Georgia) – Tennis
Stone Mountain Park Velodrome – Cycling (track)
Wolf Creek Shooting Complex – Shooting

The Atlanta area was not home to enough stadiums and environmental venues. This led to the spread of Olympic Games across the Southeast from Alabama to Washington, D.C.
